About Us
The Recipe Critics are 2 individuals who wish to contribute to the food world with their recipes and ideas. Are you a recipe critic too?
Nicole
Nicole is a self taught Domestic Goddess. With an addiction for recipe books and a never ending need to experiment with new recipes, she has been cooking and baking for her family and friends for over 11 years. The most common complaint she receives about her cooking is that she never makes the same thing twice!!
Her real love lies with baking. An occasional hankering with cake decorating has led her to create beautiful celebration cakes. Her passion however lies with making cakes that taste good and look homemade rather than producing elaborate creations with little substance.
Her cooking Dalai Lama is the eternal Delia Smith whose recipes are foolproof. Her cooking inspiration and style come from Nigella Lawson and particularly from her glorious book; “How to be a Domestic Goddess”.
Nicole has experimented with many baking styles over the years and is a great fan of American baking, using cup measurements. She believes there is no broken heart that can’t be cured with warm muffins or cookies served straight from the oven.
Her wide travels have afforded her an insight to global cuisine with a philosophy to eat ‘where the locals eat’. With a weakness for Greek and Indian cuisine, Nicole admits to mostly cooking Italian dishes when entertaining because of the ‘welcome to my home’ factor that only Italian dishes allow you to create with ease.
Through this website, Nicole hopes to allow you a peek into her world and provide you with tried and tested recipes which all can make and enjoy.
Ivan
Anyone that knows Ivan knows that his love of food came from an early age, but he started cooking (with limited success) when he left home. Not one to give up he pleaded with his mum to teach him all the recipes he liked and soon started to put his own twist to dishes he was used to.
Ivan’s food is very much influenced by Spanish cuisine, which he grew up with and which he considers to be very underrated elsewhere. Other favourites include Italian, Greek, and Middle Eastern, so there is a definite Mediterranean theme there. Ivan is quite creative when it comes to cooking, as it will often be a case of using whatever ingredients are in the cupboards at the time and coming up with a tasty dish!
Ivan’s philosophy when cooking is to keep it as simple and as quick as possible. He knows that realistically many people don’t have hours to spare when they come home from work to make dinner, so a lot of his dishes are created with this in mind.
